Specialized Care for Special Patients

CVSU is a highly specialized nursing unit designed to meet the needs of patients with heart and / or vascular conditions. We provide continuous heart monitoring 24 hours a day for patients with heart problems or those who are at risk for heart problems.

The cardiovascular-trained staff on this unit are committed to clinical care excellence, in addition to compassionately caring about our patients and their families.

Healing the Heart

We care for patients recovering from cardiac events like open heart surgery, angioplasty, pacemaker insertion, vascular surgery, aneurysm repair, heart attack or arrhythmia.

Pocket-size transmitters allow our qualified staff to continuously monitor the heart rhythms of our patients 24 hours a day so we can respond immediately if the need arises. Bedside monitors displaying heart rhythm, blood pressure and blood oxygen saturation are available for patients requiring closer observation or patients who require transport off the unit for diagnostic tests.

Caring is Part of Healing

Visiting hours on our unit are flexible and based on individual patient needs. Whenever possible, hide-away beds are made available for a family member or loved one to remain with the patient at all times. As an alternative, onsite rooms in the Alaska House may be available for family members who live out of state or outside of the Anchorage area.
