Our new online childbirth class is the perfect alternative for busy parents needing a flexible class schedule or for moms on bed rest. Have you given birth before? This online class is a great refresher course!

The eight-chapter program is an interactive, web-based class that uses videos, personal birth stories, animations, activities, and games to teach all the essential information parents need to know to prepare for their birth.

Our online childbirth class will help you:

  • Understand pregnancy – what’s happening to your body, discomforts, warning signs, nutrition, exercise, and more
  • Learn about labor – preparing for birth, pre-labor signs, onset of labor, 3D animation of labor process, and more
  • See how the stages of labor unfold – watch amazing real-life birth stories
  • Discover helpful comfort techniques – breathing, relaxation, massage, visualization, focal points, hydrotherapy, labor and pushing positions, advice for partners , and more

4-Hour Childbirth Education Class

  • Class Fee: $70 per couple

This one-day session includes instruction on labor coping and comfort skills, the role of the labor partner, relaxation and breathing using the Lamaze method, and how to plan for delivery. You will also become familiar with general terminology, pain medications and epidurals used during labor, and variations in labor such as preterm, postdate, fast and slow labor, back labor and cesarean sections.

Breastfeeding Class

  • Class Fee: $25 per person/couple

The art of breastfeeding is the focus of this class. An open discussion about common concerns is led by a board-certified registered lactation consultant who also teaches you about positioning and latch-on skills for effective milk transfer to the baby. Partners are encouraged to attend.

Baby Care & Safety Class

Burping, bathing, bonding--these are just a few of the baby care basics that are presented to help get ready to bring baby home. Topics focus on feeding and diapering, preparing you and your home, choosing a car seat, learning to calm a baby and newborn screening tests.

Infant Massage for Expectant Parents

  • Class Fee: $25 per person/couple
  • Held at Alaska Regional Hospital
  • Pre-registration is required
  • Dates in 2015: August 6, October 8 | 6:00pm - 8:00pm

This class teaches parents and caregivers the gentle touch of infant massage. Many parents report that after a massage, their babies sleep better, have an easier time with feedings, and experience fewer episodes of colic. Taught by an instructor certified in infant massage.

Infant Massage with Your Baby

  • Class Fee: $40 per person/couple
  • Held at Alaska Regional Hospital
  • Pre-registration is required
  • Dates in 2015: September 5, September 12, September 19, September 26 | 11:00am - 12:00pm

This series of four classes is for parents and caregivers of babies 2 weeks to 6 months of age. Through these training sessions, you and your baby may experience the benefits of infant massage, which include promotion of bonding, reduction in stress hormones, and improved sleep for baby. Please bring your baby, a large bath towel, and a bottle of unscented, cold pressed, food grade oil. Grapeseed oil, olive oil and sunflower oil are the least likely to cause allergy or rash. An instruction book is included with this class. Partners are encouraged to attend. Taught by an instructor certified in infant massage.
