Cancers of the reproductive system affect more than 80,000 women in the U.S. each year. Although these cancers can strike at any age, they occur primarily among post-menopausal women. The most common gynecologic cancers include: cervical, ovarian, uterine, vaginal, and vulvar.
At Alaska Regional, you’ll find cancer fighting research, detection, treatment and clinical trials, as well as education and support. Skilled physicians on our campus specialize in gynecological cancers. We offer chemotherapy, brachytherapy, radiation therapy, cancer pain management and outpatient infusion. Our da Vinci® surgical robot, the first in the state, is used to treat gynecological cancers.

When medication and non-invasive procedures are unable to relieve symptoms, surgery remains the accepted and most effective treatment for a range of gynecologic conditions. These conditions may include:
- cervical and uterine cancer
- uterine fibroids
- uterine prolapse
- menorrhagia or excessive bleeding
Traditional gynecologic surgery uses a large incision. This type of open surgery may cause significant pain, trauma, and a long recovery period. For complex hysterectomies and other gynecologic procedures, robot-assisted surgery with the da Vinci® Surgical System may be the most effective, least invasive treatment option. Through tiny, 1-2 cm incisions, surgeons using the da Vinci System can operate with greater precision and control.
Other benefits of da Vinci’s minimally invasive approach include: a shorter hospital stay; less blood loss, scarring, and pain; fewer complications and a reduced risk of infection; and a quicker recovery from surgery.

Female incontinence can be a distressing condition that adversely affects your quality of life every day. Fortunately, it almost always stems from an underlying condition that's treatable.
We've helped countless women regain their dignity and self-confidence. We have the experience, expertise and compassion necessary to deliver a comprehensive diagnosis and an appropriate treatment. Depending on your condition, treatment could include simply making adjustments to your diet and nutrition, or perhaps minimally invasive surgery to correct a physical defect.
