Mazor Renaissance Robotic Technology

Alaska Regional is proud to be home to Alaska's first Mazor Renaissance robot. Dr. James Eule performed Alaska's very first spine surgery using this system.

According to Jon Frey, Director of Perioperative Services, Alaska Regional will be the exclusive provider of this innovative service for all of Alaska until March 1st of next year. He says, "Combined with our already-strong robotic service line - with three surgical robots in our OR - and our reputation of being first to offer new, minimally invasive services to our community, the Mazor robot is a strong addition to our Center of Excellence (COERS) designation."

The actual robot is the small blue device shown in the photos. This new technology may make complex surgeries less challenging through use of a virtual 3D interface that allows for increased accuracy. Using this system may also lower the amount of fluoroscopy used for deformity, minimally-invasive, and revision cases, thereby increasing the safety of the patient and care team.

The Mazor Renaissance may be used for procedures like spinal fixation or deformities, cement augmentations, oncological applications and some brain procedures. For more information about Mazor robotics, please call 264-1733.
