Hospitalist Dr. Michael Mraz is a "positive deviant”—someone whose successful behaviors or strategies enable them to find better solutions to problems more than others with the same resources who face the same challenges. He represents the best in us and is an example of how we should treat our patients and each other. Thank you, Dr. Mraz, for being such a visible and positive role model.

In February, our Medical Oncology unit honored Dr. Mraz for his ongoing support of staff and his compassionate patient care. The department held a luncheon and expressed their appreciation. Here are some of their comments:

  • “We always feel supported and heard no matter the situation.”
  • “You use practicality in your practice. We have watched you wipe a patient’s nose, and be willing to get a patient applesauce without thinking twice. You have a great relationship with your patients.”
  • “Patients understand their daily plans, so as a team, we can better help them reach their goals.”
  • “You use excellent communication [to relay] what the plan is in your notes and it is easy for the nurses to be informed.”
  • “You offer constructive feedback constructively and you are pleasant to everyone, no matter the situation.”
  • “Dr. Mraz, we appreciate you and thank you for supporting us!”
